This week, we celebrated World Read Aloud Day with two virtual author visits, an author talk, and read-alouds!
Two Virtual Author Visits:
Fifth graders enjoyed a virtual visit from Lisa Moore Ramée, author of several novels, most notably A Good Kind of Trouble. She read aloud from her latest novel, Mapmaker, and afterward shared insights into her writing process. Her key piece of advice to those who want to become a writer: READ!
Ms. Cohn’s fourth graders visited with author, Chris Baron who shared excerpts from The Secret of the Dragon Gems and answered their questions about his favorite book and author, why he wanted to be an author, where his ideas come from, and why he writes for children rather than adults.
Author Talk:
During a special Lunch & Listen, our upper elementary students enjoyed a specially recorded author talk with Janae Marks. Marks, best known for her novel From the Desk of Zoe Washington, revealed the cover of her upcoming book and read its first chapter. This sneak preview of her yet-to-be-published novel, set for release in October, was a special treat!
Read-Alouds:
During regularly scheduled library classes, our early childhood friends celebrated Black History Month with read-alouds of I Am Every Good Thing by Derrick Barnes and Saturday by Oge Mora.
Ms. Flores’s first graders heard two books that will be featured in our upcoming Book Madness tournament: Remember by Joy Harjo and When You Can Swim by Jack Wong.
Thank you to our guest authors for inspiring our students!
