Weaving Magic With Books

“There are many little ways to enlarge your child’s world. Love of books is the best of all.” – Jacqueline Kennedy

This year I am delighted to be Gillispie’s librarian!

For me, I can’t imagine anything better than “weaving magic” during a read aloud or helping a student locate that “just right” book.

The library services the entire student body from early childhood to Grade 6. Early childhood classes visit once a week, with kindergarten through Grade 6 classes visiting once every six-day cycle. To return and/or check out books or enjoy a quiet place to read or do homework, K-6 students are welcome to come to the library from 8-8:30 a.m. In order to expedite kindergartners’ departure from Fay Avenue, only Grades 1-6 students may visit the library after school (3:00-3:25).

Fast facts:

  • Length of check out is two weeks (with one renewal for an additional week).
  • Kindergarten – Grade 2 are allowed two checkouts at a time.
  • Grade 3 – Grade 5 are allowed three checkouts at a time.
  • Grade 6 students are allowed four checkouts at a time.
  • Research has shown that the single largest predictor of a child’s long-term success in elementary reading is the amount of reading aloud that occurs during a child’s early years.

I invite you to stop by and visit this wonderful and cozy space!
