Yesterday was Teacher and Staff Appreciation Day, and it was delightful to watch and listen to children honoring the Gillispie adults in their lives.
A prekindergartner called the day for what it was: “It is teacher’s [and staff’s] love day.” I listened to one first grader recognizing a teacher with the kind words of, “I love that you’re funny and let us cut the tops off carrots [a science experiment] and name them.”
A third grader appreciated about his teacher, “You are always patient with me when I need more time,” while another classmate noted, “I love you because you help us learn and you always come up with fun projects that we all love.”
Some fifth graders performed a rap, which included the lyrics,
“We all know Mrs. Y is pretty sweet,
If you look at her desk, it’s really neat!
She works at school for long hours,
So she deserves some beautiful flowers!”
Hugs to Clarissa K., Romy A., Kim P., and their team for a fabulous lunch, including fresh tacos made on site and a variety of side dishes prepared lovingly by families. We each received potted plants to celebrate that teachers and staff are a bit like gardeners in nurturing and growing children.
Thank you to the cadre of helpers organized by Alaleh M. and Mary B. who created our front lobby’s “wall of love,” where each Gillispie adult is captured in their natural environment—surrounded by children—along with posted heartfelt messages.
From The Gillispie School, thank you to all of you and your children who created a day filled with flowers, hugs, beautifully-drawn pictures, sweet notes, and delicious food. It was a lovely day!
