Recently, the 5th graders found the Library transformed into a Book Cafe! Students browsed titles from several genres: novels in verse, realistic fiction, fantasy, and mystery. For each genre, students chose a book and read a few pages. They then jotted their thoughts on a “menu” provided to them for the “book-tasting” event.
This activity exposed students to many new novels recently added to our collection. In addition, several students tried a genre they had never read before. And best of all, some students immediately checked out one of the new books they sampled! Helping students find new books to enjoy and encouraging them to try new titles, authors, and genres is part of the core mission of the Gillispie Library.
