Pre-K students in Sequoia embarked on a creative project to design a treehouse for the resident fairies! Guided by Mr. Royer, our EC Outdoor Classroom and Atelier Coordinator, they participated in every stage of the process—from constructing a base structure using natural wood to observing their work, and then bringing it to life through drawing and painting.
Through these observational drawing activities, the children learned to slow down, appreciate small details, and build confidence as they tried new skills. This process also helped them embrace mistakes as part of learning, fostering resilience and comfort in their creative explorations.
Ideas for the fairy house were discussed, including the number of platforms and the shape of the plywood base. On their next visit to the Atelier, the children talked about stand heights, considering stability and functionality. Morning circle discussions followed where they learned to measure and select the best wood pieces, preparing everything for assembly.
Finally, the completed fairy house was ready—filled with fairies, animals, and miniature furniture, perfect for imaginative play. The students’ teamwork and imagination truly brought magic to life!
