Mr. Edward’s Grade 4 Science class recently began a unit on rocks and minerals with a “luster test” conducted in the science lab. Each student was given 10 numbered rock samples and asked to describe the rocks as metallic, glassy, pearly, greasy, silky, or dull. As the unit progresses, different tests will be run on the same numbered rock samples. The students will also conduct a hardness test, vinegar (solubility) test, and a true color test. The compiled test results will be used at the end of the unit to name and identify 10 different rocks and minerals!
