On June 4, 1896, Henry Ford completed the first test drive of his Model A Ford Quadricycle. On June 3, 2013, Gillispie’s Preschool Room 4 completed work on their very own quadricycle (aptly named a “go-kart” by students) and took it out for a test drive on the EC playground!
The students have been designing and building a go-kart to wrap up The Car Project that started back in December. This labor-intensive project exposed children to the importance of checking your work as you go, handling tools safely, and being open to modifications when things don’t go as planned. With much hard work and guidance from their teachers, the children finished their go-kart and were ready to give it a spin. After learning how to maneuver and steer, they took practice loops around the playground. The students beamed with pride when telling their peers and upper school friends that they had built the kart themselves!
