Smiling, swallowing, closing my eyes,
It makes me feel like I want more,
Mrs. Long’s fifth graders learned how to write cinquains recently. This week, they taught their Grade 2 book buddies how to write them. The older buddies led Mrs. Watkins’s students through pre-writing, making a final copy, and decorating their work.
“The other day, a child brought in a neighborhood sign about a lost bunny. The kids became concerned about the animal, which became the topic of discussion during morning meeting. The kids came up with good ideas about how to help. First step–put out some food to get the bunny to come over. Some other ideas included map drawing to lead us to the place where the bunny is hiding or a community walk for some search and rescue.”
