Deep, multi-faceted math inquiry is alive and well in Grade . . . K? Yes, in Kindergarten. Just eavesdrop on morning meeting time in Ms. Austin and Ms. Pirtle's classroom and you'll see charts, tables, and diagrams (many created or enhanced by the children) that help them see, track, and reflect on the numerous kinds of data with which they interact each day: weather temperature; day, month, and year; number of days in school this year so far (see the racing horse, above); and child surveys about like and dislikes. Truly, math is "everyday" and all around us.
