Mrs. Watkins’ Grade 2 class was abuzz with hands-on math activity today. While a few students worked independently at their desks, Celeste M., Amelia M., Chase L., and Max H. enjoyed a hands-on sequencing activity involving graphic math cards, dominoes, and addition/subtraction facts. Across the room and as facilitated by their teacher, Natalia W., Lucy S., Bennett C., and Cameron C. explored the architectural relationships between different lengths of unit blocks (especially 1s, 5s, and 10s). At one point, the conversation turned to how homes are measured according to square footage and how properties come to be valued at a price-per-square-foot. Maddie I. ended up building the most “expensive” house of the day, valued at 1,118 units.
