On display in the lobby is the first-grade interdisciplinary Community Project!
This beautiful piece of work was a collaborative effort between the homeroom teachers, Science & Design, Spanish, Music, and Art classes exploring the concept of “community” from each vantage point.
In Music, they discussed and learned about various music venues within the San Diego community.
In homeroom social studies, they learned about communities past and present, and at one point zoomed in on their local neighborhood of La Jolla, observing the various buildings and places a community needs.
In Science and Design, they designed and created hospitals, stores, houses, and more out of recycled materials (considering scale) and learned about the importance of renewable energy sources.
In Spanish, the students learned the Spanish words for the different shops and structures we find in our neighborhoods.
In Art, they created a beautiful background mural to set the scene for the community model they created.
The final piece is truly amazing to see, so stop by the lobby to take a look!
