Endowment for Excellence in Teaching Campaign Celebrates a Resounding Close
January 6, 2011
We are thrilled to announce the successful completion of The Gillispie Endowment for Excellence in Teaching campaign. A total of $1,595,900 was realized through gifts and pledges from Gillispie Board of Trustees, faculty, parents, grandparents, and friends.
First and foremost, we must thank the anonymous donor whose $1.5 million dollar gift seeded the Endowment and provided the School with a matching challenge to raise as additional $1.5 million in a year’s time. The vision of this benefactor will allow Gillispie to retain and secure the best teachers, while creating a culture that makes excellence in teaching a top priority of the School.
Eighty percent of the interest garnered from the corpus of the funds will be used toward enhancing salaries while twenty percent will be designated for professional growth opportunities.
Gratitude is also extended to Gillispie parent and Board member Chris Freundt, who served as the Endowment Committee Chair. Chris worked tirelessly with a cadre of dedicated and skilled fundraising parents, staff, and Board volunteers–his positive energy and consistent follow-through were key to our success.
Finally, we thank all those who gave to the campaign. The success lays squarely on the shoulders of these donors. Their generosity will safeguard one of The Gillispie School’s most significant resources: its teachers.

P.S. from Alison Fleming: “You’ll notice that many are thanked in this article, but there’s one obvious omission–that is our own Nancy Torns. Nancy can’t toot her own horn, but I can. This would not have happened without her; I salute her unflagging efforts and leadership on the campaign.”
