When families join us in the classroom to share their traditions, it creates meaningful and memorable experiences for our students. Recently, a preschool family brought the joy of the Lunar New Year to Rosewood, enriching the celebration with stories, activities, and cultural traditions.

One parent introduced the holiday by sharing that her family is from China and showing students on a large globe how many countries celebrate the Lunar New Year. Together, we read Amy Wu and the Lantern Festival, a story that highlights the importance of family and traditions.

One of the most exciting moments was learning about red envelopes! During the Lunar New Year, children greet adults with a traditional “Gōngxǐ fācái” to receive their red envelopes. Our friends in Rosewood eagerly took part, practicing the greeting and experiencing this special tradition firsthand.

The festivities continued with hands-on art activities. Children painted hanging lanterns that swayed gently as they worked, creating a playful and immersive experience. They also decorated Year of the Snake cutouts with glitter, stickers, and pom-poms, making each one unique.

To top it off, the parents brought in a dancing dragon! Friends worked together to bring the dragon to life, moving it playfully around the classroom—a wonderful way to encourage teamwork and celebrate the holiday’s spirit.

A heartfelt thank you to our visiting family for sharing their culture, traditions, and creativity with us. Their presence made the Lunar New Year truly special, leaving us with joyful memories and a deeper appreciation for this beautiful celebration!
