This week, Ms. Haas’ 4th grade class paired up with pre-k students in Willow for their first weekly Book Buddies session. During this special time, the 4th graders and their Willow buddies spend about 30 minutes reading together. Our younger students especially enjoyed visiting the "BIG school" and spending time in the upper elementary classroom with their new reading buddies.
Book Buddies builds meaningful social interactions between our Upper Elementary students and Early Childhood (EC) friends.
Through Book Buddies, each child learns fun facts about their new buddy, which helps create strong connections and friendships. The program also gives our younger students the chance to see fluent reading in action, as they watch their older buddies model reading skills. The 4th graders become positive role models, inspiring a love of learning through reading to their younger peers.
