This past week marked an exciting milestone for our students in the Littles Cottage: their first introduction to the outdoor classroom, better known as the Big Yard, a dynamic play space shared by our Middles and Pre-K classes! To say they were thrilled would be an understatement.

To help our youngest learners prepare for this big step, Mr. Royer, explained how to stay safe while exploring this larger play area. Students listened intently, as they eagerly anticipated this new adventure!

Since the Big Yard offers so much to explore, we’ll be introducing its features gradually. Over the next few weeks, students will have the opportunity to familiarize themselves with three exciting areas: the sand pit, the movement zone, and the music stage.

The Sand Pit: This area has tools for scooping, pouring, and building imaginative sand structures. There’s even water for experimenting and a slide for extra fun.

The Movement Area: Students practice gross motor skills in this zone which offers tires to move, balance beams for careful stepping, a gymnastics bar, a trampoline, and so much more! It’s a place for children to develop coordination and strength while enjoying active play.

The Music Stage: Here, students can unleash their inner musicians with a variety of real instruments, including shakers, guitars, and even a drum set. It’s the perfect space to explore rhythm, sound, and creativity.

Our thoughtfully designed outdoor spaces encourage creativity, imagination, and active learning, fostering an environment where children can thrive. The smiles and laughter of our youngest preschoolers as they dive into these new experiences have been heartwarming to see.

A huge thank you goes to Mr. Royer for creating and maintaining such a beautiful and engaging outdoor classroom. We can’t wait to see all the adventures and learning that will unfold in this amazing space!
