On Wednesday, April 9, students and staff wore their favorite striped clothes in celebration of a special visit from Susan Stockdale, author and illustrator of Stripes of All Types.
Ms. Stockdale gave students a behind-the-scenes look at how she creates her nonfiction picture books—from developing ideas and selecting just the right words, to transforming pencil sketches into vibrant illustrations.
She also shared how she collaborates with scientists to ensure the accuracy of her work and with book editors to refine her writing. She explained that she has learned to embrace revisions and edits, knowing they help her create the very best book possible.
The presentation sparked curiosity and creativity across all grade levels, with many students leaving inspired to become authors and illustrators themselves.
Thank you to Susan Stockdale for sharing her talents with us, and to our amazing librarian, Ms. Long, for organizing this memorable event!
