Working collaboratively, the San Diego Blood Bank and The Gillispie School teamed together to produce an amazing day! Due to the efforts and generosity of our community, the Bank collected 27 pints of blood; in the last five years, our drive has brought in 189 pints.
It does take a village (the La Jolla Village) to create successful outcomes, and we are grateful to the following establishments for their food contributions: Sorella, Michele Coulon, Brick & Bell, Come On In, and Pizza Pronto.
The donated family-sized desserts were a great hit, and a highlight was the raffling off of Martha Gomez’s Despicable Me Minion Cake. To win the prized delicious piece of art, 340 tickets were thrown in the hat, and a very happy Room 2 family brought it home. What’s the end result? $2,478.67 was collected for the San Diego Blood Bank to keep its fleet of mobile blood bank trucks in good repair.
Applause go to the parents, faculty, staff, and community members, who volunteered, baked, wrapped, bought, and restocked for the bake sale and, of course, donated life-saving blood. A huge thank you goes to Erica Hurley and Linda Davis, and their third grade students, who put their heart and soul into this event!
