Each year students from around the world engage in fun computer science challenges to spark their curiosity and enhance their hands-on coding experiences during the annual Hour of Code. Hundreds of free coding and unplugged challenges are available for anyone. Gillispie elementary students will participate in the Hour of Code through a variety of activities, which will begin with an inspirational video from astronauts at the International Space Station!
Students in K through Grade 1 will rotate through centers where they can program our favorite Beebots and Mousebots, or play Kodables, an age-appropriate visual programming language made for K through Grade 2 grade students. Our 2nd and 3rd graders will apply their skills to coding challenges using visual programming language, while our 4th and 5th graders will discover text-based coding challenges using Javascript and Python. Some of our youngest Gillispie students in PreK will be able to explore coding with our Beebots!
