We are all very excited about the imminent re-opening of the Gillispie Library! Our collection of picture books, chapter books, and nonfiction titles was previously located in what is now the Kindergarten Tinkerspace. Our new larger space in the Sandbox allows us to expand both our library collection and programming.
Although our Library is not fully functional yet, some library classes have already begun. Students in Kindergarten, First, and Second Grade began the year with a read-aloud of Saturday by Oge Mora. Students also watched a video and participated in a “mystery box” activity to learn about the proper care of library books. Upper elementary students started completing book match surveys to help ensure our collection meets their needs and interests, and to help me better advise them during their library visits.
We hope to officially re-open the Library for classes and check-outs on Monday, September 26. I can’t wait to welcome all of our students and inaugurate another year of joyful reading!
